We were delighted that Pathway were able to host an online book launch with Jay and Louise Levy on Tuesday 14 January. Chaired by Dr Jenny Drife, Consultant Psychiatrist, nearly 100 people joined a transatlantic meeting to mark publication of Pretreatment Across Multiple Fields of Practice: Trauma Informed Approach to Homelessness and Beyond.
Edited by Jay and Louise, the book brings together contributions from colleagues from across the US and the UK, describing how Jay’s core pretreatment therapy framework is now being applied beyond homeless services and helping practitioners working with other vulnerable and excluded groups and in other settings. Alongside Jay himself the session includes contributions from various speakers and contributors. Several people on the call spoke of how moved they were by the different contributions, how much pretreatment therapy had become foundational in their day-to-day practice and how much it helped them keep on going.
Jay Levy described the development of pretreatment therapy in homelessness and its core principles in a keynote address to the Faculty for Homeless and Inclusion Health’s 2022 annual conference, available in Pathway’s video archive here.

The Faculty’s Mental Health subgroup meets online approximately four times a year and has helped us develop a number of Pathway policy statements. Meetings are also a focus for sharing new research and clinical practice relevant for mental health practitioners working with patients experiencing homelesssness or other forms of profound social exclusion.
If you are not already part of the Faculty, you can sign up to join the Faculty’s Mental Health subgroup here. If you are already a member and would like to join this subgroup, please email faculty@pathway.org.uk with your request.
